WASHINGTON -- Total petroleum deliveries increased by 1.3% from October 2012, and increased by 2.1% from September to average just below 19.0 million barrels per day in October, the American Petroleum Institute reported in its latest Monthly Statistical Report.
For the year to date, total domestic petroleum deliveries, a measure of U.S. petroleum demand, were up by 1.1% compared to the same period last year.
In October, gasoline deliveries, a measure of consumer gasoline demand, were up from the prior month, the prior year, and the prior year to date. Total motor gasoline deliveries moved up 2.2% from September and were up by 2.6% from October 2012 to average 8.9 million barrels per day. These were the highest October deliveries in three years, since 2010. For year-to-date, gasoline deliveries increased by 0.6% compared with year to date of 2012. The average regular-grade gasoline price in October declined by 18.4 cents from the prior month to $3.420 per gallon.
Distillate deliveries increased by 3.3% compared with October 2012 to just below 4.0 million barrels per day. Compared to the prior month, distillate deliveries were up by 4.3%. For year-to-date, distillate deliveries were also up by 1.8% to 3.8 million barrels per day.
